Doug’s product experience includes HPHT tools, completion tools, service tools, coiled tubing tools, cementing tools, multizone isolation tools, composite frac plugs, ballistic and hydraulic setting tools, acoustically actuated tools, and many accessories.
He has authored 14 technical papers, articles, and editorials and holds 29 patents in the areas of HPHT tools, deep-water service tools, plug and abandonment (P&A) systems, unconventional tools, composite tools, coiled tubing systems, gravel pack systems, cementing tools, and downhole communication methods.
Doug has presented extensively on the topics of zonal isolation in unconventional wells, as well as HPHT tools and applications. He is recognized as an industry expert on both topics. In 2012, Doug was selected by the Society of Petroleum Engineers to be an SPE Distinguished Lecturer on the topic of multizone isolation. The Society also asked him to lead two HPHT workshops: the 2014 SPE-ASPE Advanced Technology Workshop on “Downhole Tools in HPHT Applications – Filling the Gaps”, and the 2015 SPE Advanced Technology Workshop “Downhole Tools – Challenges, Opportunities, and Value in HPHT Applications”.
Additionally, Doug and his teams have been recognized for contributions to the industry with a Hart’s E & P Meritorious Engineering Award, and as a World Oil Awards Winner. He continues to serve the energy industry in his role as the Completions Editor for the Journal of Petroleum Technology, and as a voting member of API Product Standards Committees 11D1, 19TT, and 19AC.
Doug holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas, and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Houston.
“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act righty because we have virtue and excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted righty. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
